Early Childhood Center

March 15, 2020

Dear ECC Families,

After monitoring the latest information from government agencies and officials and meeting with the ECC Committee, the decision has been made to close the ECC effective immediately until April 6. Prior to that date, we will re-assess the situation and adjust the schedule as needed.

Among the 600+ people at our campus during a given week, thus far we are unaware of anyone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19.

We understand the number of enrolled children with a complicating risk factor is very low, but that any child can contract and transmit the virus. Several of our employees do have immune system, respiratory or other medical vulnerabilities that would make getting Coronavirus more dangerous for them. Sustained adult-to-child ratios are required by our state licensing standards and essential to our work. We must act quickly to protect our ECC Families and employees with an operational pause for the sake of everyone’s well-being.

So that our teachers can always be as free as possible from the distractions of financial uncertainty, our policy is to pay them during any unforeseen closure so they can be better focused then and throughout the year on serving your children.

This situation is unprecedented, and information is rapidly developing. Please forgive the delay in getting this decision and message communicated to you. Having served the families in this community for over 40 years, this is the most difficult decision we have faced, because we understand the disruption it can cause our clients. We ask you to bear with and support us as we face a complex set of decisions so we can continue to serve your family and our community.

Should you have any questions, please use email (be sure to include Diane Duke, & Katie Garrison, ). We will do our best to respond as soon as possible.

We saw a quote over the weekend that stated, “In the end, it will be impossible to know if we overreacted or did too much. But, it will be quite apparent if we underreacted or did too little.”

Love to you all! We are praying that everyone stay healthy and this situation clear up quickly.

The Brookwood Baptist Church Early Childhood Center has provided quality childcare and instruction in a safe, nurturing environment for over 40 years. The ECC was started in 1973 as a ministry to support parents in all areas of their children’s development: spiritual, physical, cognitive, social and emotional. That remains our mission today. We strive to ensure that every child and family will be touched in a Christ-like way through the teachers and staff of the ECC.

Our Director, Diane Duke, has served in various capacities in the ECC for 31 years. She has been the Director since 2008. The teachers and staff participate in training and continuing education opportunities in order to provide a quality, Christ-centered program. For all the staff, it is a joy to have former ECC children as adults bringing their own children to participate in the variety of programs and opportunities we offer. The Early Childhood Center continues to be a vital ministry of Brookwood Baptist Church.
