Day 4: Cape Town 2023

24Jun

Hello Brookwood!

I would like to start this blog off by mentioning that Annie wants all of y’all to know that she does in fact have more than one adult friend.

This morning we woke up to a great breakfast spread of muffins and croissants, along with fruits, toast and more.
The first place we headed this morning was to church. We went to King of Kings, which is where the Thomas and Keim families go to church every Sunday here. John Thomas gave a great sermon today on not being able to hear God. The message we all left with today from him was that “God’s silence is not his absence.”
After a nice service there we headed to lunch at a restaurant that definitely was not the right  restaurant we intended to go to but oh well. The place we went to was a seafood restaurant but they had a little bit of everything. We got to try some more exotic meats including zebra, impala, and warthog. Yes Mom and Dad I actually tried these animals (and actually like them). This was an inviting addition to my diet back home consisting of cheeseburgers and chicken fingers.

After lunch we went to the nearby Boulders Beach where it is famously known for habituating penguins. We suffered through the sand profusely blowing in our eyes to look at them. We ended it off by going through various penguin gift shops and street vendors.

The next place we went to is Cape Point, which is “The Most Southwest Point of the African Continent,” as the sign put it. We saw some baboons, ostriches, and elands on the trip there. We all walked up these huge rocks along the beach for the best views there. We all stood through the again profusely blowing wind to see truly the most breathtaking and beautiful sights we’ve ever seen. We all stood there for 30 minutes taking in God’s beautiful creation. We also went on a cable car to a light house near cape point for some more amazing views.
We settled down for the night at the Team House for dinner which was some chicken and rice. Before that we walked along the beach for some nice sunset pictures. On the walk back Wyatt mistook a stick for what was actually dog poop and picked it up with his hand (don’t ask). We then had our nightly discussion. Our night ended with Walker asking Larry if 1989 was the year of his wedding anniversary.

We are all looking forward to working to the holiday camps with the kids starting tomorrow and all the great things God will continue to do this week.
