Living Hope at Christmas: Day 3

17Dec

Day 3 was definitely one for the books!

Our day started this morning with an early wake up call at 4am for a morning hike! All 13 of us conquered Lion’s Head, which is quite literally straight up and straight down. We enjoyed seeing the beautiful views and listening to Louis tell every other hiker that we were Americans as we ascended. We made it to the top and soaked in the incredible views, while trying not to get blown off the top of the mountain by the insane winds.

After feeling like we lived a whole day before 8am, we went to Truth Coffee and got breakfast and coffee! The girls had some lattes and croissants, while the boys conquered some cinnamon rolls and breakfast sandwiches. We’ve come to the quick realization that 19 rand is equal to $1, so the boys especially are eating good! We don’t need any hangry boys that’s for sure!

After our yummy breakfast, we went to the District 6 museum and learned more about the history of South Africa before, during, and after the Apartheid. Our group appreciated the time set aside to learn about the history and the impact it had on their lives.
Our day most definitely didn’t end there, as we went on to lunch in Simon’s Town to eat at Bertha’s, visit the hundreds of penguins on Boulder’s Beach, and ended at Cape Point! Although it was considered, no penguins were taken back to the boys’ bathtub.
Today was one of our longer, yet very fulfilling, days with wonderful views, many laughs, and time together! We’re headed to Aquila tomorrow for our sunset and sunrise safaris, so stay tuned!
