Living Hope at Christmas: Day 6

19Dec

Hi to Mom & Dad Gilbert and hi to all of you other lovely Brookwood people!

Today has been one of the sweetest and most rewarding days yet here in Cape Town, and I am so excited to tell you all about it.
The morning started like usual with breakfast at Sacred Mountain, the highlight of which is ALWAYS the fresh juice. It is always so sweet to wake up and eat together & be reminded that we have been blessed with another day in Cape Town. Today was particularly exciting because it was our first real day of serving with Living Hope.

After breakfast, we hopped on the bus to head to Capricorn, our first location of the week for Holiday Camp with the kids. Franz brought the energy on the bus (as per usual) and had us clapping along to the music and getting hyped up for camp. Franz’s easygoing spirit and joyful presence has certainly been one of the biggest blessings of our time here.

We opened up the club with a quick devotion amongst the leaders before the kids arrived. Holiday Camp was so fun, and we loved getting to love on all of the kids who showed up. Our morning started with the youngest kids, the second crew was around 9-12 years old, and the last group was teenagers. Each group was a unique experience and so fulfilling in different ways. It was so cool to see the word of God be planted in the hearts of each of the kids. They were so joyful and easy-going— it was beautiful and convicting to see their joy that was so genuine and not dependent on circumstances. The Life Skills Educators and Teen Helpers from Living Hope were also so encouraging to us and energetic, which made the entire experience even more fun.

One of our favorite parts of the day was simply playing soccer outside with the teenage group. A “quick game before the Bible lesson” quickly turned into spending over an hour playing and laughing with people of all different ages and soccer skill levels. Even Franz got into the game (and was definitely better than I could ever claim to be). As a self-designated referee, I had the blessing of simply watching everyone play together. In my mind, it was such a simple and beautiful picture of what the Kingdom will be like. Uninterrupted, unscheduled, unending joy. We might have some impressive sunburns from this outdoor game, but our hearts sure were full.

We ate dinner back at Sacred Mountain, talking about the high-points of our day and planning some activities for Club tomorrow.  We also walked to meet Austin and Kelsey for ice cream. It has been so fun and sweet to get glimpses into their life here. We are currently walking back to Sacred Mountain to finish up the night with some games and fellowship. The Lord has been so good to us throughout our time here so far. He is so so faithful !!!!! As the sweet kiddos here say, many many blessings!
Joyfully, Lilly Gilbert

Motivational Speech: Written by Louis Brown, read by Claire Sexton this morning
good morning my fellow Americans. Today is the day where we do the thing. What thing some of you might be asking? What is the thing we are doing?
Well thats a bad question bc Caroline actually put an itinerary in our devotional journals!!!!!!!!!
*Long Pause for laughter and claps*
We’re here to serve. And if that does not get u fired up I don’t know what will. The Lord wants us here today, now,
Not to save lives, but to spread Joy! So let’s do this thing!
